CHALLENGE /

The design challenge behind the project was to remodel and animate an outdated retail shopping center in an up-and-coming neighborhood in Khobar.

 

CONCEPT /

Although the static 10-meter wide structural grid was preserved in order to minimize the construction budget, the playfulness in the design was achieved through the main elevation and the roofing structure. The segmented 1.25-meter wide aluminum and glass grid with its varying depth and in-and-out protrusions, as well as the faceted roof and vertical wooden louvers give dynamism and edginess to the building.
